Beinn Mheadhoin (739m, Graham) – Middle Mountain
The full round of the splendid Kingairloch Horseshoe is a fine expedition in summer, but it misses out one of its best features, the ENE ridge of its highest peak. The route below follows this directly to its summit.
Start from a small CP on the Kingairloch Estate road, just past the Boathouse Restaurant at NM8417252814. Follow the estate road NW around the back of Kingairloch House turning SW across the Abhainn na Coinnich. Follow the track past the dwellings at N Corry and on the the Old Mill where it disappears. Continue WSW, across the Allt Coire Bhain and S of a small wood, then climb steeply up the ridge to the summit of Beinn Mheadhoin. *Turn NW around the rim of Coire Ban, curving N down to Bealach a’Choire Bhain. Head NE over Meall na Greine, 609m, and continue to the final summit of Sgurr Shalachain, 538m. Head E down to a forestry track at WP NM8298453269 and follow it to rejoin the estate road by Kingairloch House.
*An alternative route back from the summit of Beinn Mheadhoin descends S. Curve SE along an undulating ridge between the N-facing corries and the super quarry to the S. At the summit of Meall an Doire Dhuibh, 575m, turn N along its crest and locate the stalkers’ path that leads down to S Corry. Take the footpath NW, across the bridge over the Abhainn na Fearna, to reach the dwellings at N Corry. Follow the outward route back to the start
