Beinn Fhada (1032m, Munro) – Long Mountain
Meall an Fhuarain Mhoir (954m, Munro Top) – Rounded Hill of the Great Spring
Beinn Fhada is a huge mountain, 9km long, stretching E to W from the head of Glen Affric to the head of Loch Duich. Great views of Kintail and far beyond.
Start from the car park opposite the entrance to Morvich campsite, NG960210. Head E to the end of the road and cross the bridge over the River Croe. Take the footpath into Gleann Choinneachain
and follow it for 4.5km up to a junction at NH007213. Turn S and follow the path into Coire an Sgairne and continue up to reach its rim at altitude 800m. Head up SE, following the rim of Coire
Thuill Sgailceich to the summit of Beinn Fhada.* Descend gradually W to a broad col, Plaide Mhorex, 889m, then up to summit of Meall an Fhurain Mhor. A narrow ridge snakes NW to the Bealach an t-Sealgaire (The Hunters’ Pass), beyond which a short scramble leads to the summit of Sgurr a’ Choire Ghairbh, 864m. The ridge continues NE, curving N then W down over Beinn Bhuidhe, 502m. Continue W down to the bridge over the River Croe and return to Morvich.
From the summit of Beinn Fhada there is an option to continue S, curving E around the rim of Coire Toll a’ Mhadaidh, descending gradually to a col at 914m. The Munro Top of Sgurr a’ Dubh Doire, 962m lies 425m E of here, at the head of Glen Affric. Return to Beinn Fhada and continue the on route above back to Morvich.
