Tuesday 27th August Maps LR51 and OL46 or EX365 Glen Ogle
Creag Mac Ranaich (852m, Corbett) – Mac Ranaich’s Rock
Meall an t-Seallaidh (809m, Corbett) – Hill of the View
These Corbetts, which can be conveniently reached from the head of Glen Ogle, make fine viewpoints above the intersection of several major glens.
Start at the CP on the A85 at NN558284, at the head of Glen Ogle. Cross the A85 and follow the cycle track S past Lochan Lairig Cheile. At NN562274, leave the cycle track and head up SW by
the plantation. Continue SW up to Meall Sgallachd, 707m, then NW to a col. Follow the NE ridge of Creag Mac Ranaich to its summit. Descend SW to a col, across a *track then climb up to the col
just NW of Cam Chreag, 812m. Head S and up summit trig point of Meall an t-Seallaidh. Return over Cam Chreag** and head NW over Meall an Fhiodhain, 817m, and continue over undulating
ground to a small summit at 789m. Turn N and follow the high ground down to Creag Glas, 593mlr.
In poor visibility, the fence line may assist navigation. Descend NE to reach the fordex over the burn in Glen Dubh and cross it to reach the junction of tracks at NN533276. Head N on the track, which enters the forest, curving NW to join the dismantled railway track. Follow this back to Glenogle Cottages and the CP.
*A shorter day omits the 2nd Corbett. On reaching the track on the col, follow it N down Glen Dubh and return to the start as above.
**For an easier return from the 2nd Corbett, after traversing Cam Chreag, descend NE to reach the track on the col and follow it back to the start as above. This may be advisable in wet weather if the
ford further down Glen Dubh is impassable.
