The Scottish Chamber Orchestra Strings return to Oban in their 40th year of touring Scotland!
Ancient styles with bold modern flavours: meetings between the old and the new thread through this stimulating concert directed by SCO Leader Benjamin Marquise Gilmore. Peter Warlock makes a modern twist on 16th-century themes in his charming Capriol Suite, while Grieg combines the Baroque invention of Bach, Handel and Scarlatti with a distinctive Nordic folk twang in his buoyant Holberg Suite. The ancient theorbo is in the spotlight for British composer Stephen Goss’s new Concerto, performed by the spectacular Matthew Wadsworth – and even Geminiani gets in on the act by taking his teacher Corelli’s already virtuosic Concerto Grosso and making it even more ingenious and brilliant.
